Profit for the first half of 2009 declined to almost €27 million, down 6.0% on the same period last year, due entirely to lower non-recurring book profits. Sales for the first half of 2009 were 0.7% higher at almost €1,086 million, with organic sales growth of 4.1%.

The operating cash flow has increased significantly and the financial position has continued to strengthen even in these unusual times. Simultaneously we have invested heavily in extending our stores, so that we are poised to reap the benefits of economic recovery in the coming years.’
