Net profit for the first six months was €29 million, up 7.4% compared with the corresponding period in 2014. Sales in the first half of 2015 amounted to €1,274 million, an increase of 1.1% on H1 2014. On a like-for-like basis, sales growth was 0.5%.
Koen Slippens, CEO: ‘The macroeconomic indicators point to further recovery in the Dutch market. In the supermarket channel we are already seeing signs of this and sales continue to pick up. There is also a certain amount of recovery in the foodservice market but it is still rather sluggish. Our ‘Kick the Costs’ programme is now well underway and is showing visible results, which forms an important basis for profitability improvement. All in all we can look back on an encouraging first half of 2015, especially when one considers the incidental gains in 2014.’

Monday 1 June saw major changes in the Euronext Amsterdam Oranje Index that was launched last year on the initiative of De Financiële Telegraaf (DFT). Sligro Food Group is one of the newly included stocks.
The Oranje Index was introduced specifically to counter criticisms in some quarters that the main measure of the Dutch stock exchange’s performance, the AEX Index, was not sufficiently ‘Dutch’. Hitherto, however, the Oranje Index has been restricted to companies permitted to style themselves Koninklijke (Royal). The new basis for inclusion is entirely different.
As well as increasing the number of stocks included from 16 to 20, the newly formulated index calculated by Euronext provides a more accurate picture of the Dutch business world and Dutch entrepreneurship, reflecting a wider range of sectors and companies with Dutch roots.
Complementing a fixed set of seven AEX companies, five AMX companies and two AscX companies, the rest of the index was determined by a poll of DFT readers, who selected five additional companies and one recent IPO from a shortlist drawn up by Euronext. The new composition is: Accell, Ahold, Akzo Nobel, ASM International, BAM, Boskalis, DSM, Imtech, ING, Heineken, KPN, Philips, Postnl, Randstad, SBM Offshore, Sligro Food Group, Ten Cate, TomTom, Wessanen and the recently listed Lucas Bols.
There will be an annual review to see if changes or additions should be made to maintain and enhance the essentially Dutch nature of the index.

Monday, March 30 Sligro Enschede reopened its doors after a major renovation. Alderman Welman of Enschede performed the opening act, under the watchful eye of a large number of senior and star chefs such as Martin Kruithof (Lindehof **) and Lars van Galen ('t Lansink *).
"This is the fourth Sligro Cash & Carry of the new generation. The term ‘Groots in genieten’ is central. In Enschede, we got the opportunity to take over the property of the neighbors and merge it into one building. That resulted in this ultra-modern building with a sales floor area of 8,000 m2. The fresh departments for fish, meat, fruit and vegetables are really a feast for the eyes.
Enschede is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands with the concept ‘Sligro 3.0.’, after Maastricht, Eindhoven en Gouda. Sligro 3.0. will be the standard for the other Sligro outlets in the Netherlands.
